Many of you have called and written asking for an update on my condition. Today is the first day I have felt able to get back to my desktop and actually typing. Of course my right side was (and still is) in pain but while in the hospital I had an IV get infected in my left hand. I couldn’t even move my fingers for several days without significant pain.

The biopsy was supposed to be thoroscopic, but after they collapsed my right lung, my left lung refused to take over, so they had to make a fairly large incision. They say that this type of surgery is one of the most painful there is. I have more pain today than I did the day I got out of the hospital, but expect it to begin improving soon.

The nodule they removed was malignant and so all of the others in both lungs are expected to be malignant also. I begin treatments next week with a very expensive medication; thankfully Linda’s insurance pays for much of it.

The prognosis is about 1 year if I don’t take the medicine and two years if I do. We are also exploring other things remedies that may help also. My daughter Beth Ann has me on different herbs etc. that seem to help at least emotionally.

However, the Lord is the final Healer; we are trusting in Him to see us through this. It is hard at times for Linda and the kids but He is our strength!

I am running out of energy typing this and am going to have to go sit down and wait on my sweetheart to get home from work.

I cannot tell you how much your prayers and cards and concern mean to our family. I will try to write more later.

Pastor David Beatty Sr

Dr. Carey had great decision of character. After he had thoroughly weighed a subject his resolution about it was taken, and nothing could make him change the purpose he had formed. His perseverance to accomplish a proper end knew no bounds; he would labor through discouragements for twenty years or more to carry out a Christian purpose. When he had a clear conviction of duty he could not disobey his conscience; to keep it without offense was one of the great aims of his life. He never doubted the help of God in his own time to aid him in carrying out the plan of love which he had formed. He carefully husbanded every moment, and in that way he was able, to perform more labor than any man in Europe or Asia in his day. He had as unselfish a heart as ever beat with love to Jesus.

Will you come and hear? Missionaries presenting on Sunday will be during our normal service times. Monday thru Wednesday, services begin at 7pm. Hope to see you there!

This Sunday (8/7) Randy Smith, missionary to Burkina Faso, will be speaking in our Sunday school and worship service. His message will be from 1 Peter 3, What Manner of Person… Come expecting a blessing!

Biography

The Smiths are independent Baptist church planting missionaries sent out of the Windsor Hills Baptist Church in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. They are serving the Lord in the city of Ouagadougou, the capital of the West African nation of Burkina Faso. They have been serving in West Africa since January of 2004. After spending 13 months in language school in Albertville, France, they served in Côte d’Ivoire (Ivory Coast), West Africa from January 2004 to October 2005. These two years of preparation included an outbreak of severe anti-western rioting in November 2004 and a near fatal bout of cerebral malaria that Tonya survived in July 2005.

For the first 18 months after arriving in Ouagadougou they oversaw the work of another furloughing missionary. On February 1, 2009 they held the first service of the Eglise Baptiste de la Grâce (Grace Baptist Church) in Bendogo, a neighborhood in the capital city Ouagadougou. The Lord has given them steady growth and in January 2011 they averaged 60 on Sunday morning and 30 on Wednesday. The Lord blessed them with 180 on their Second Anniversary Sunday in February 2011. They eagerly await what the Lord has in store in the years to come through this ministry.

The Smiths have recently arrived in the US for a year-long furlough. While here they will be traveling to report to their supporting churches and working to increase the financial assistance for their ministry. Their number of supporting churches have fallen off with the declining economy; a distressing occurrence that is hurting so many missionaries today.

Randy reports that their greatest physical need is to obtain property for a new building, as they are bursting at the seams in their current location. Their greatest spiritual need is for more men to step forward to be spiritual leaders in their mission. They have a considerable number of women but are in need of more men.
